Renting isn't just handing over the keys — it's making sure you're proficient in that specific aircraft before you take it up on your own.
10 hours logged in type. Before soloing a rental, you'll need at least 10 hours of logged flight time in that specific aircraft — the Cessna 150, Cessna 172, or Comanche 180 — whether that time came from training with us or elsewhere.
A checkout flight with our team. Once you've got the hours, you'll fly with one of our instructors to demonstrate proficiency: normal and crosswind landings, emergency procedures, and general handling in that airframe.
Current FAA recency. As with any rental, you'll need to meet standard FAA recency requirements — three takeoffs and landings in the preceding 90 days — before carrying passengers.
Renter's insurance. We recommend every renter carry their own non-owned aircraft (renter's) liability insurance before flying solo. Reach out to our team and we'll walk you through our current requirements.
Trained somewhere other than Blackstone Aviation? That's fine — reach out with your total time and experience in type, and we'll get you scheduled for a checkout.
